Super healthy Kanten dessert



This dessert is made from Kanten.

Kanten, which is Japanese (寒天) and it is made from seaweed.
Kanten is a type of jelly and very easy to use for making dessert. 

 There are many health benefits from eating Kanten since it is low on calories and it is said to lower the bad cholesterol levels. 

So if you want to have a delicious, easy, creative dessert and at the same time trying to lose weight or stay fit, this dessert is definitely for you. 

The Kanten I am using in this video is bought in a supermarket called Life. This supermarket is a chain store in Japan. 

There are Kanten powder and Kanten sticks. 
I am using the powder one in this video since I think it is easier to calculate the amount of Kanten to use. 
For Kanten sticks, these you would need to break and let them soak in water for 30 minutes before using. (I am only using Kanten powder in this recipe).

In this recipe, the main ingredients are Kanten, milk, gum syrup, lemongrass butterfly pea tea, and water. Feel free to use sugar if you don’t have gum syrup, the reason I use gum syrup is I had it at home, otherwise, I would have been using sugar. If you want to make the dessert even healthier then you can skip the sugar, then this dessert will have a stronger taste of lemongrass butterfly pea tea and milk. 

The beautiful natural blue color is from the Lemongrass butterfly pea tea, a very nice herb tea. 
It is said to stimulate blood circulation, as well as improving eyesight. If you want to make the jelly darker blue, then please let the lemongrass butterfly tea in the water until you are satisfied with the color. 

 Here is how you can make this Kanten jelly dessert. 

Milk hearts
  1. Add 150-gram milk to a pot
  2. Add 1 gram Kanten to the pot. 
  3. Add 1 gum syrup, which is rough 13 grams.
  4. Gentle heat the mixture and stir it slowly. Don’t let it boil.
  5. Pour the milk mixture to a plate and let it cool down at room temperature.
  6. When the milk mixture has cool down and becomes jelly, then use a heart-shaped form to cut out heart-shaped milk jelly.

Kanten jelly
  1. 150-gram water 
  2. 1 gram Kanten 
  3. 1 gum syrup
  4. Mix everything in a pot and heat it gently while stirring slowly. 
  5. Add the lemongrass butterfly pea tea bag into the pot and it will color the mixture blue. 
  6. Pour the Kanten into a container and let it cool down at room temperature.
  7. Once the Kanten has become jelly, add the heart-shaped milk jelly on top of Kanten Jelly.
